Malaysia is a place I have spent a lot of time over the years,
mostly in KL of course, but there are other places in Malaysia,
and a lot of them are a lot of fun and great places for a holiday
or a day trip.
Kuala Lumpur, only ever referred to as KL, means ‘muddy
confluence’ in Malay and describes the coming together
of two rivers in the region of Selangor. KL was established
for the waters here as they were used to wash the silver being
mined elsewhere in the area. Hence the reason KL is the home
of Royal Selangor Pewter. If you are in KL it's worth doing
a tour of the factory.
There is plenty to do in KL, here is a quick list ...
National Mosque (a must, it's beautiful).
Batu Caves (watch the monkeys).
Butterfly Park (very beautiful)
KLCC/Twin Towers for shopping, fountain, food.
Telekom Tower has better view than KLCC.
Petaling Street, Chinatown for night market.
Sultan Ismail pubs and clubs: Lots of noise and fun but watch
out for the ladyboys.
Bangsar: Full of bars and restaurants, best expat hangout in
Bukit Bintang/Bintang Walk: Shopping and Hotel Central –
Marriott basement has great restaurants and bars.
Old Railway Station: Fantastic architecture.
